Stone Protection

All natural stone has tiny pores, even when it looks completely solid. Water, oil, wine or dirt can enter these pores and leave stains or darker patches. A penetrating sealer, also called an impregnator, fills the pores below the surface without changing the look of the stone, so spills stay on top and can be wiped away.

How much protection is needed depends on the stone:

• Shanxi Black and Absolute Black granite are very dense and absorb little. Sealing is optional indoors, but helpful for honed or leathered countertops.
• Black Pearl, basalt and G654 benefit from sealing outdoors, especially when flamed.
• Limestone, marble and lava stone are more porous, so we recommend sealing after installation and resealing periodically.

We can apply a penetrating sealer in the factory before packing, on request. After installation, clean the stone with pH-neutral cleaners, avoid acids and bleach on marble and limestone, and wipe up oil and wine spills promptly.
