Quarries

Consistent black granite starts at the quarry. Absolute Black and Mountain Black come from quarries we work exclusively, and the owner of our Shanxi Black supply is a long-term partner. That lets us secure top-grade Shanxi Black without golden dots for projects that need it. Our group also owns quarries for G654 dark grey granite and black slate.

Working this close to the source helps buyers in three ways:

• Grade control. Blocks are inspected and graded before they leave the quarry, so first-grade material goes to orders that need it.
• Price. Buying blocks directly removes a layer of traders.
• Continuity. Large projects and repeat orders can be supplied from the same quarry face, keeping the colour consistent.

Before blocks reach the factory, they are sorted by size and quality. Large, clean blocks go to slabs and countertops, while smaller blocks are used for sinks, standard tiles and carvings. Setting the right grade at this stage is the most important step in controlling the quality of the finished stone.
