About Shanxi Black Granite
Shanxi Black is quarried mainly in Hunyuan County, Shanxi Province, in northern China, and is widely regarded as the premium black granite in the Chinese market. Geologically it is a diabase (dolerite), traded as granite and also known by Chinese names such as "Emperor Black" (Diwang Hei) and "Taibai Qing".
The background is a pure, even black. After polishing it takes a high mirror gloss with almost no light spots or colour variation, and the surface has a warm, solid feel that is hard to match with other black stones.
Its dense structure gives good resistance to acids, alkalis and weathering. In the cold winters of northern China it has a frost resistance coefficient of up to 0.98, so it performs well outdoors as well as indoors.
